  • “This music was recorded in the wastes of the eastern sierras and fantasies of the west. The timeless pastoral. Western blue. Lush springs and cascades hidden deep in dry canyons. Creosote, popcorn quartz, blue mud. My magic eyed tweaker neighbors. Bristlecone pines and sage flats, old corrals. The comforting loneliness of the desert. The deep silence. The desert blooms. The wild cold winds. The vast emptiness of the hills, the old cabins and abandoned mines and the remnants of wild western junk, 200 years of sun bleach later, lost in time. Back at the outpost it was acid and peering through crystals. It was cooking on the fire and the sliver moon. Heartspook. Alone, and happy. One candle, the piano and the 4 track. My dog flapping her ears in all the recordings.” Nico Georis

  • The majority of Desert Mirror was recorded in a small town outside of Death Valley on an upright piano in an abandoned airstream / work-in-progress studio. Use of hard-panned "mirror delay" - the same technique used by the influential composer Terry Riley on his album A Rainbow In Curved Air - was quintessential to the creation process of these "survival piano jams".
